Yasuki Saito <nttlab!NTT-20!yaski@shasta.stanford.edu>: bugs in DVIIMP
(Tops-20 version 0.92)]
It just happens that a related bug has just been found, after over a year
of trouble free use by many people. This bug has been fixed and it may be
the underlying fix that will obviate the more elaborate fix that you
envision.
I would like to repeat your test. Where are these fonts and how would we
go about getting them on our SAIL computer.
Does your DVIIMP bug report imply that you have some 256*13 kanji glyphs or
are there a smaller number, perhaps 40 actual glyphs in each font?

Where is this fellow Yasuki Saito? I have sent him a message which seems
to be on its way, but he does not seem to be listed on shasta.
An explanation may be in order.
Perhaps you have failed to note that when the space used by a font's
rasters is required it is overwritten but the pointers for glyphs that
have been downloaded are left as is (they were made negative at the
downloading time) and the downloaaded glyphs can then still be used. This
leads to a great saving in time.
There is one penalty in that there is a limit to the number of distinct
glyphs that csn be stored in the Imagen. Actually this limit will probably
never be exceeded with English (at least it never has been in over a year
of continuous use by many people) but it may well be exceeded with kanji.
